Update on Coronavirus (COVID -19)

11th March 2020

Dear Members,

You will be aware of the considerable media coverage around the Coronavirus (COVID -19). We are following the guidelines set down by the Federal and State Governments and the World Health Organisation, who are the experts in this matter. The latest advice from the Department of Health (on Monday 9 March) is as follows:

  1. if you have been in contact with someone who has contracted the virus, you should seek medical advice and isolate until you are clear of symptoms for 14 days.
  2. if you have travelled to or through China, Iran, South Korea or Italy in the past two weeks, please do not come to the Tennis Club for a period of 14 days from the date of return to Perth.

The World Health Organisation has published recommended hygiene practices as the best preventative measures to contracting COVID-19.

  • Frequent washing of hands with soap and water before and after eating and after toilet visits
  • Frequent use of alcohol-based hand sanitiser throughout the day
  • Coughing or sneezing into a tissue or into the crook of your arm, not your hand
  • Avoiding hand to mouth contact
  • Avoiding physical contact with others if you or they are unwell

Please visit the link below for a comprehensive information sheet provided by the Australian Government's Department of Health for more information:

Coronavirus (Covid-19) - what you need to know

As I’m sure you can appreciate, expert advice is changing very quickly as the virus develops, so we may need to amend these precautions. If that occurs, I will communicate with you as soon as possible. Please contact our Club Manager Clare on 0438 395 424 if you have any queries or concerns or if you feel you may have been exposed to the virus.

WA Tennis Shutdown in Response to COVID-19 Hard Lockdown

To the WA Tennis Community

Instruction to cease, temporarily, tennis activity in Western Australia

Effective from 6pm tonight, Sunday, 31 January 2021 until 6pm Friday, 5 February, the Perth metropolitan area and the Peel and South West regions will enter a 5-day lockdown, based on health advice.

These measures are being implemented due to a fast evolving situation in Western Australia with the positive COVID-19 case detected in a hotel quarantine worker.

The WA Government has instructed a number of  facilities will need to close in the Perth, Peel and South West regions, including but not limited to gyms and indoor sporting venues as well as outdoor recreational facilities.

As a result of these temporary measures, Tennis West is advising that all Tennis Clubs, Club Activities and Coaching Activities must cease operations immediately:
  • All tennis clubs and centres are to close until further notice
  • All tennis programmes and coaching be cancelled
  • All club, association, and social play be cancelled until further notice
  • All public court hire bookings to cease

The 5-day lockdown will also deem that all Tennis West Leagues, competitions and tournamentsscheduled within the lockdown period be postponed. Please check the Tennis West League Noticeboard for details and updates to play.

We know our community loves our sport, and that this directive impacts the livelihood of our valued tennis coaches. However, this is a government mandate, and needs to be strictly adhered to by our tennis community, for this short period.

Please stay home and stay safe.
